Walter Jenkins

Rotary's Song Leader

Joe Caulder Remembers

Walter Jenkins

I have known Walter Jenkins since June 1922 when we met on a Rotary special train from Calgary to Los Angeles enroute to the International Rotary Convention.

What a great head of black hair Walter had then. He was on the special with Ma Sunday, wife of the famous preacher (Evangelist) Billy Sunday and young Walter Jenkins was his song leader. Later we got to know his wife Vivian very well as Walter had been song leader at all big Rotary Conventions.

Walter has had a great career and we are all hoping he will still be Rotary's song leader in 1964 when the International Rotary Convention will again be held in Toronto. As I write this (August 1961), Walter has just led the singing at the Rotary Convention in Tokyo which had the record attendance of 23,378 register.

J. A. CAULDER.
