Rotary Biography of
FERNANDO CARBAJAL Lima, Peru. President, Rotary International, 1942-43. Fernando Carbajal is Vice-President of the Peruvian
Telephone Company in Lima, Peru, a Director of the Industrial Bank of Peru,
Vice-President of the Crandall Engineering Company of .Boston,
Massachusetts, U.S.A., and President of the Commercial Mining Company of
Peru. Mr. Carbajal was born in Lima. Following his graduation
from the Peruvian School of Engineering and Mining, he was engaged in
engineering work in Peru, in exploration for the Peruvian government, and
was an engineer on the construction of the Panama Canal. In 1920, he became
General Manager of the Peruvian Telephone Company, of which he is now
Vice-President. In 1920, he organized the Rotary Club of Lima, and he is a
Past President of that Club. He is Co-Editor of El Rotario Peruano,
the official Rotary publication of Peru. He has been active in Rotary
International as President (in 1942-43), Vice-President, District Governor,
Honorary Trustee of the Rotary Foundation, and as committee chairman and
member. During his year as Rotary President, Mr. Carbajal
travelled more than 66,000 miles in the interest of Rotary, visiting every
country in the Western Hemisphere. He has been decorated with high honors by
the governments of Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and
Peru. Boston University has awarded him the honorary degree of Doctor of
Science for his accomplishments in the field of international good will and

Caulder Remembers FERNANDO CARBAJ Ferdie, as he is affectionately known by, was President of R.I. in 1942-1943 and followed his close friend Tom Davis. He comes from Lima, Peru which is far away but he is always on hand at the R. 1. Assemblies and Conventions, and was in Chicago May 16th, 1954 at the cornerstone laying. Ferdie is a capable and a very likeable individual and has made and continues to make a fine contribution to the growth of Rotary in South America. J .A. C.
