President, Rotary International, 1932-33

Clinton P. Anderson has been United States Senator from New Mexico since 1948. From 1940 to 1945, he was Congressman-at-Large from New Mexico and from 1945 to 1948, he was United States Secretary of Agriculture. He was born in Centerville, South Dakota, and received his education at Dakota Wesleyan University, the University of Michigan, and the New York School of Social Work.

Mr. Anderson has been a member of the Rotary Club of Albuquerque, New Mexico, since 1919 and he is a Past President of that Club. He has been active in Rotary International as President (in 1932-33), Vice President, Director, District Governor, committee chairman and member, and as Trustee of the Rotary Foundation.

While President of Rotary International, Mr. Anderson travelled extensively in the United States, Canada, The British Isles and on the Continent of Europe.

He has been awarded the following honorary degrees:

        Doctor of Humanities, Dakota Wesleyan   University.

Doctor of Agriculture, New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts.

Doctor of Laws, University of Michigan.

Doctor of Laws, St. Lawrence University.

Doctor of Laws, Missouri Valley College.

Mr. Anderson is President of the Mountain States Mutual Casualty Company in Albuquerque and he owns an irrigated farm, the Lazy V. Cross, in the Rio Grande Valley just outside Albuquerque, New Mexico. Prior to his election to Congress in 1940, he served as Treasurer of New Mexico, as head of the State Relief Administration, and as Executive Director of the Unemployment Compensation Commission for New Mexico.

Clinton P. Anderson

Clinton was President of R.I. in 1932-1933. He is now known best as the U.S. Senator from (Democrat) Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Margaret and I have had bad luck catching up with him in Washington, but his Secretary always provided the necessary pass to the Senate (also Congress) and we spent some amusing hours there. On one occasion we listened to some blistering attacks on everything British. Good luck to you Senator Clinton.
