Rotary Biography of

CHARLES L. WHEELER

San Francisco. California. U.S.A.

Charles L. Wheeler is Executive Vice-President of Pope and Talbot, Inc., which includes in it's operations Steamship, Lumber and Land Divisions, with headquarters in San Francisco, California.

Born in Hammond, Wisconsin, he worked on the Menomonie (Wisconsin) Times while attending the Stout Schools. Following his graduation, he was Editor of the Times for two years before going to the Pacific Coast, where he became associated with the St. Helen's Lumber Company. This company later became a part of Pope and Talbot, and for more than 30 years he has remained with that organization.

Mr. Wheeler has been a member of the Rotary Club of San Francisco since 1925, and is a Past President of that Club. He has been active in Rotary International as President (in 1943-44), Vice-President, Director, District Governor, Rotary Foundation Trustee, and as committee chairman and member. He was one of Rotary International's consultants to the United States delegation for the United Nations Conference on International Organization.

He has served as President of the Pan American Society, member of the Pacific Coast Executive Committee of the American Bureau of Shipping, Director of the National Federation of American Shipping, Trustee of the Douglas Fir Export Company, Director of the International House of the University of California, Trustee of the San Francisco Museum of Science and Industry and Director of the National Association of Manufacturers.
